Wrap a measuring tape around the pet just behind the front legs.  The  tape should not be too loose or too tight and should provide the pet with a comfortable fit.  If the tape is wrapped snuggly around the pet, it may be best to select the next size up in order to make sure the Choke Free Shoulder Collar will be comfortable. 

It should be noted that Choke Free is made out of leather and due to the natural characteristics of the leather, Choke Free will soften and become more flexible and conform to the pet's shape with wear.  It is important for ChokeFree not to be too large once it has been worn and softened.   The Shoulder Collar should be fitted such that the pet does not have enough room to pull out of the collar.  Choke Free sizes match the circumference of the pet's chest behind the front legs.   A good rule of thumb is to snugly measure the pet's chest circumference and add an inch to allow for comfort.
